What is the Georgia application process for Disabled Person Parking Permits and Plates?
You can apply for handicap parking and get the Disabled Person’s Parking Affidavit (Form MV-9D) by going to your nearest Georgia Department of Revenue Office or printing the document online.
You don’t need to own a vehicle to obtain a Disabled Person’s Parking Permit, but you do if you are applying for a Disabled Person’s License Plate.
There is no fee for a temporary, permanent and special permanent parking permits. There is, however, a $20 fee for the handicap license plate.
You and your doctor just need to complete and sign the application with all essential information. Once you finish this application, you have to bring it to your local Georgia Department of Revenue tag office.
How long are Disabled Person Parking Permits and Plates Valid in Georgia?
Depending on the handicap parking permit, temporary or permanent, the validity varies.
- Temporary Parking Permit
- Valid for 180 days
- Permanent Parking Permit
- Valid for 4 years
- Special Permanent Parking Permit
- Valid for 4 years
- Vehicle is equipped with special controls for the disabled driver with upper extremity impairments
- Disabled Person’s License Plate
- Valid for 4 years

Are there Georgia Disabled Veteran Plates?
Disabled Veterans’ License Plates are accessible for one vehicle of any Georgia resident veteran. Your impairment needs to be 100% service-connected as certified by the Veteran’s Administration or Federal Government.
You just need to meet the following requirements, certified by medical professional, and provide documentation for disability from the Veterans Administration to be eligible:
- 100% and permanently disabled
- Loss of use of one or both feet
- Loss of use of one or both hands
- Loss of sight in one or both eyes or permanent visual impairment

Can I report Handicap Parking Abuse?
There are instances where Handicap Parking spaces, permits, and, even, placards are taken advantage of by those who don’t have a mobile impairment.
If you happen to see someone easily moving from an empty car in a Handicap space to their destination, there’s a possibility they shouldn’t park there.
Notify authorities and/or property owners as soon as you observe a driver misuse a handicapped parking space. The abuser could be subject to fines, suspension of permit or, even, imprisonment.
