Can I apply for SS Disability?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I am 73 years old and work full time - maintenance / facilities engineer in a clinic. One morning, I woke up, feeling embarrassed from my belly to my toes. My wife took me to the hospital and 3 days later I hate surgery.
All therapies after the surgery did not help and I am still in the same situation.I can no longer do my job and must stop working with it. My income from the SSA is much too little to live.
My question is: Can I apply for SS Disability even if I am already 73 years old? I wanted to work for at least 10 years

Thank you
a young man

Hello,

Individuals who don't wish to start collecting Social Security retirement benefits may be eligible to receive Social Security Disability benefits if they can prove a disability keeps them from working. If you're already receiving Social Security retirement benefits, you may not be eligible to receive Social Security Disability Benefits at the same time.
Best Wishes,
Eric
