Qualifying children

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?

Hi Tristin,

She may be able to receive auxiliary benefits from her father's SSDI, but only until she turns 18. She could qualify for SSI benefits on her own based on her conditions.

Best of Luck,
Eric

How soon after you turn in your bank information and birth certificate will you start receiving auxiliary benefits for your child, if they was approved back in February 2017. Because I'm just finding out.

So, my ex has filed for disability a year and half ago. We have a 10 year old daughter together, but she is not on his application because he is not on her birth certificate. We are currently getting this resolved. My question is will my daughter get back pay or just start receiving benefits if and when he is approved?

My son receives a check because I'm disabled. His father passed away what happens? Does he draw mine or survivors?

Hi there,
He may be able to draw whichever benefit would be a larger amount.

Hi Bob,
They may do so as both of you would be presumed to be contributing to the child's upkeep and well-being.

I have a son who has lived with me for 3 months...he's doing the online schooling but has add. Keeps him from finishing it... Will he still get his ssi from my SSI if he can't keep up with his classes? He's 16....want to get his GED and go into army.
