You May Be Eligible for Up to $3,148 Per Month

Financial freedom is here: get help today with a free Social Security disability evaluationYour monthly disability check will be determined by whether you get Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). SSDI benefits are available to disabled workers who have a qualifying work history, either through their own employment or a family member. SSI is a government program for low-income people with disabilities.

SSDI

Your SSDI benefit will be calculated based on the average amount of money you earned prior to being disabled. Your past wages will be considered when computing your SSD benefit if Social Security or FICA taxes were withheld from your salary. The average SSD payment is currently $1,277. The highest monthly payment you can receive from SSD in 2022 is $3,345.

SSI

In 2021, the Supplemental Security Income program provides a maximum payment of $794 per month for singles and $1,191 per month for couples. This is the maximum amount you are entitled for, but it will be lowered by any other benefits or income you may receive.

Other government benefits, such as food stamps, are not counted towards your SSI income, and your monthly check will not be lowered because of it. You will get an extra payment from your state if it participates in the SSI Supplement program.

One Step Closer to Financial Freedom

While of course no one plans on becoming disabled, the fact is that it can happen unexpectedly. Most families need some sort of emergency financial help to pay the bills that could occur as a result of this event. As soon as you become disabled, you should file for Social Security disability benefits.
