Lump sum back payment

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I received two lump sum payments, but I have not spent all of the funds. I want to make a funeral arrangement and buy a car. How soon must I spend the lump sum payment.

Hi Rob,
If you have applied for benefits, it may take longer than that. However, depending on the severity of your condition, you may have been eligible for a Compassionate Allowance decision, which has a shorter timeline.

Hi Amber,

You would need to talk to someone from the SSA regarding that since all payments are made via a direct deposit into either a checking or savings account.

Hi William,
It would affect your remaining installments as the money that the SSA had sent you was from your back pay.

I fought since 2011 for my SSI , I finally won a fully favorable decision this year, my first installment came then I needed extra money for a electric bill, it was given to me two days later , then I received another installment 6 months on the day that was my second installment, now the last installment which is the balance ( around 20,000) is due to me in April 2018, but my house goes into sheriff's sale this November 2017, does anyone think I can get my last payment released early to my so I can get a home to live? Or anyone been through similar situation. Greatly appreciate you answers. And God bless you all. We are the most patient people in the world..(LoL)

Hi there,
You may be able to do so, I would contact the SSA with information about your housing situation.
