Are there Alaska Disabled Veteran Plates?

Yes, these Disabled Veteran (DV) plates are accessible to any Alaska resident veteran. However, your impairment needs to be at least 50% service-connected as certified by the Veteran’s Administration (VA).

Similarly, you need to complete the Application for Disabled Parking Identification and submit a certificate from an agency of the United States federal government, such as the VA, stating that the disability is service-connected.

After enjoying the benefits of possessing Alaska Disabled Veteran Plate for 5 years, the plate just needs to be renewed. Just as you appreciate the benefits of disabled parking, you can benefit from Social Security Disability after filing a claim.

Can I report Handicap Parking Abuse?

Unfortunately, there are instances where Handicap Parking spaces, plates, or even, placards are taken advantage of by those whose mobility isn’t impaired.

If reported, the penalty for misuse could be subject to a fine up to $500, as well as potentially having the permit confiscated.

If you notice abuse of disability parking, you or any property owner may request law enforcement to come take care of the situation, whether in public and private lots.
