Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Question about benefits

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I don't see my original post so re-posting and added a little more information.

So, I live in Michigan, and I've been getting SSI ($750/month) for a couple years now due to a few disabilities, and ever since I recently moved into my own place I've been having trouble making ends meet, and am usually broke within the first week left with pennies for the rest of the month.

I've done a small amount of research already, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any possible way at all to increase how much I get each month.

SSI fair share?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I started receiving SSI back in December. In January I gave my son half of the rent and electric and always paid for my own groceries. There are no other countable bills. I contacted SS and told them I had started paying my fair share and I haven't heard anything since.

I went today to talk to them and all they could tell me is that it's under review and they couldn't give me any idea how long it would take.

My questions are: Does anyone have any idea how long it could take and do they give back payments for the increase? Thanks!

How does a Currently Qualified Disabled Person Terminate Benefits

My Son is a high functioning adult with Autism. He was approved for SSI when he turned 18. It has been a nightmare of endless paperwork and mistakes that the SSA has buried us in. As he Payee and being responsible for reporting everything on his behalf I cannot imagine how the disabled and the undereducated can navigate the paperwork heel the SSA minions create for the disabled that are striving hard for their independence and not rely on SSI to support themselves.

Friends son receives SSI for autism but my friend uses a lot of it on himself

So my buddy has a kid who has autism and receives around $740 a month. My buddy uses that for drugs, shoes, and alcohol for himself. How is this legal? Is there anything that can be done. He is a terrible parent who only cares about getting that money and he gets it on the 1st of every month and it's gone a few days or a week later.
