Back pay

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I got a letter from social security saying I was entitled to monthly disability benefits beginning July 2017. The date you became disabled: it says we found that you became disabled under our rules on February 2017. To qualify for disability benefits, you must be disabled for five calendar months in a row. The first month you are entilted to benefits is july 2017. I'' recieve my first payment on august 9 2017. Do I recieve any back pay because I haven't worked in 5 months.

Hi there,
Yes, you may be eligible for back pay for those five months, back pay is usually paid about four months after you first start receiving benefits.

Hi There,

Back pay usually comes 4 months after you begin receiving benefits. If you need to talk to someone directly, you'll have to call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213.
