Lump sum back payment

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I received two lump sum payments, but I have not spent all of the funds. I want to make a funeral arrangement and buy a car. How soon must I spend the lump sum payment.

My son was approved for SSI. I received a lump sum, but was still owed 1455. They said that in 6 months i would receive that amount. We are in December, and that payments due. Would i receive that payment on the first, or days after??

Hi Marlen,

If your child is over the age of 21 they will not be able to qualify for auxiliary benefits unless they have a disability

I was on disability from the time I was 14 to 18 I missed a Dr appointment due to hurricane Katrina && with the destruction of the storm I never followed up. I lost my check && I am now 30 still suffering with my disability. Can I re apply? Also I lost my husband 2 years ago && I haven't received any kind of support, we have a child, what do I do?

I just received my back pay from SSD, is there any way I can get around giving the back pay to my former employer long term disability department?

HI Nadine,
You may want to consult your employer's policy, you may be obligated to pay them back pay if you had agreed to it in the policy.

Hi Don,
I'm sorry to hear that! You may want to start collecting evidence that the SSA had underpaid you.

Hi Mark,
It may be a good idea to contact your local SSA office regarding this as they would be able to give you information specific to your case regarding this.

SSDI got approved and a one time big lump sum says direct deposited today. I just updated my direct deposit with them today because I don't remember giving them my bank info and I have not received anything yet. Should I be expecting that lump sum any minute now or what?

Hi Nick,
You may want to confirm where they had sent your money with the SSA, and I can't say when you would get it as processing times can vary by banking instituition.
