work credits - how it is calculated?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

my SDDI claim has been denied since i have not enough credits. I was born in sep 1970. Started working in US in 2012. Went on short term disability (STD) at work in Nov 2016. My work paid STD until May 2017.
SSA set disability date to Nov 2016 and claim I have 20 credits while need 24 (for age 46). Does it sound right? If they include STD payments (Lag payments ?) I will get to 24 credits.

Hi there,
Short Term Disability payments may not be considered earnings for the purpose of determining eligibility for benefits.

HI Alex,
You would need to contact the SSA regarding this, you can do so by calling them at 1-800-772-1213.
