Hi there,
It means that you have a sufficient work history to receive SSDI benefits, however that does not necessarily mean that you would receive benefits.

Just replying to your answer so if ssdi has deemed me medically disabled and I have all the work credits I can still be denied i'm also 55 yrs old this is very confusing.

Hi Peggy,
That is correct, the SSA may deny benefits even if you satisfy the medical and technical (work credits) criteria. Beyond those two criteria, you would have to make a case that you would not be able to work or be re-trained for some other type of work, which may be difficult for some people. You may want to get in touch with a disability advocate or attorney, they can help you with a appeal if needed and they can help you through the application process. You can get in touch with one if you fill out this form:

Hi Brenda,

We are not associated with the SSA so we cannot help you with that. If you had a lawyer, they usually hear back faster so I would contact your lawyer to see if they have heard a decision. You can also contact the SSA at 1-800-772-1213. Best of luck!

Lost my dominant hand 3 years ago. My hearing with ALJ was 4 months ago and still do not know if I got awarded. Does it really take this long?

Hi Jonathan,

Unfortunately every case is different and some do take that long. If you had a lawyer, they sometimes hear a decision before you. You can contact them and see if they have heard a decision.

Hi Lisa,

We are not affiliated with the SSA so we do not have access to that information. There are a couple of ways to find out the status. You can call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213, log into your MySSA account (you may need to set it up if you have not yet) or contact your attorney or advocate if you are working with one.
