CAN I WORK AND STILL RECEIVE SSDI?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I RECEIVE SSDI DUE TO A PERMANTLY DISSABLED RIGHT ARM AND HAND (THAT IS WHY I TYPE IN ALL CAPS, I.E., ITS EASIER); I HAVE SEVERE BACK PAIN AND I HAVE DIFFICULTY WALKING AS A RESULT OF A BROKEN NECK (FRACTURE OF C5 & C6). I STILL WANT TO WORK THOUGH... DOING WHAT, I DON'T KNOW. CAN I WORK AND RECEIVE SSDI AND IS THERE AN INCOME LIMIT? GRANT FROM GEORGIA.

Hello, I have cancer and I’m on ssdi. If I try to work 8-12 hours a month do I need to tell social security what I make every month? Or just file my taxes at the end of the year? Thanks

Hi there,
You may want to check in with the SSA regarding your plans to work, they can give you detailed information about your case.

I didn't see my questioned answered so posting again. I know SSDI can be taxed if income is over $25,000.00 for singles a year. Is SS count as income in the $25,000.00 figure or just work Income?
Thank you

Bryan

Hi Patricia,
Your tax liability for disability benefits may depend on how much money you had made in addition to disability benefits.

While off of work for 6 weeks I applied for SSDI. I decided to give work a try for 3 months but was unsuccessful. Near the end of that work period I found out I was approved for my SSDI. So during my 5 month waiting period I was over the SGA. However only worked for 3 0f those months. Will my benefits be affected? My 1st month of eligibility is February 2018 and I will be under the SGA!

Hi there,
It really depends on how the SSA came to their decision about your case, some people are unable to work entirely if they received a Medical Vocational Allowance. You may want to contact the SSA regarding this.

My husband is on SSDI and is working part time. He makes under the allowed amount. My question is: His company has a Simple IRA plan for it's employees can he use the money he makes to participate in the plan?

So if I'm understanding right, if I get 912.00 a month from ssdi. I can make 850.00 extra a month and it won't change my benefit amount?

Hi there,
It's a good idea to contact the SSA regarding your particular case, however if you are receiving SSDI you may be able to make up to $850 a month in earned income without a change in benefits.
