End stage cirrhosis of liver (alcoholism)

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

My brother, 40 yrs old, is in the end stages of cirrhosis of the liver (due to alcoholism), with morbid ascites. He has paid into SS in the past but hasn't worked in recent years. Does he qualify with this condition? What if he dies before his case is approved? Can his wife collect what is due him, if anything?

Hi Sally,
I am not a doctor and do not have the medical knowledge to accurately define that diagnosis, but it may mean that the liver is not able to function at all.
