how can i get my amount of my checks raised?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I was permanently hurt at work an had to move in with my parents. Took 6 years to finally be approved. They set the amount of my check as living with my parents rent free. $488.00. My parents have declined in health an I can no longer take care of them. I have to get my own place but cannot do this on such a small income. What can I do? What will I need? To get my checks raised. Also do I qualify for a SSI supplemental check? Do I qualify for medical from the department of human services? Also my back pay is a large amount an can't get it for a year. I need this now to secure me a home an my future. Please help!

Hi there,
If you're getting SSDI payments, those are based on work record and as such would not change based on need.
I would contact the SSA about this and let them know you will be moving and will not be receiving housing as in-kind support from your parents any more. If you are getting SSI payments, they may be able to adjust your payments or give you an advance on your back pay.
