Advanced COPD - abandoned wife - didn't work outside the home

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

My sister is about to lose her home, and now has no income. Her abusive, soon-to-be exhusband, is not contributing to the household account anymore, even though I believe that was part of the separation agreement.
He has a d/b/a business under his name only (of course!), and she worked 50 to 60 hours weekly supporting the graphics side of his business for many years. They did file "Married, Filing Jointly for all their tax returns. However, there is no paper-trail to PROVE she worked since she didn't pay in to Social Security, according to one Wichita KS attorney; therefore, she isn't eligible to apply for SSDI. She is dependent on oxygen and can barely walk across her tiny living room floor. She is under the care of a Pulmonologist, a Cardiologist, and of course, her primary care Physician.
Does this now mean that stay-at-home moms, who also homeschooled for awhile, and who also worked their tails off doing everything a lazy husband would NOT do, doesn't count anymore? Is she just out of luck? We are desperate to help her, but she is running out of hope.
Thank you for any advice you can give...

Hi there,
Your sister may be eligible for SSI benefits based on her income, she may want to contact her local Social Security Administration office so they can asses her eligibility.
