Mental evaluation appointment

I have severe lumbar spinal stenosis and have been on meds prescribed from a pain clinic for 10 years. About 2 years ago I started falling and have lost most of the feeling in both legs from the knee down. I also have Type 2 diabetes and profound hearing loss. I had an MRI and it showed my back condition is worsening. I had to stop work because of the pain and falling. I applied for disability benefits a while back and they called me to get a little background. She asked me if I was still suffering from depression and I said yes. Not terribly but because I can’t do the things I used to. 3 months later I received a letter from Health and Human services saying I was scheduled for a ADULT MENTAL STATUS EVALUATION.
Does this mean they are doing this to close my case and deny me? I didn’t use depression as the reason I was applying. My MRI shows 7 of my lumbar vertebrae have collapsed.

Hi there,

Hi there,
The SSA would use the totality of your condition, including physical and mental status, for information about your case. You may want to contact any mental health providers your have used for documentation about your case, and you also may want to contact a disability advocate or attorney if you have not already. You can get in touch with one by filling out this form:

Anna
Thanks, I will do that.
