Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I received two lump sum payments, but I have not spent all of the funds. I want to make a funeral arrangement and buy a car. How soon must I spend the lump sum payment.

My 5 year old daughter was approved for SSI and we received a lump sum back payment that had to go into a specific account but we did not know that it was to only be used for medical cost and some things were lost between conversations with her case worker. We are right at the six month mark for the amount of back pay and everything I read says over 6 months worth of pay and another source said six months or more. Can I use that money to buy food or is it only for medical needs? the website says for personal needs but the example they give is nursing care and every example is medical... She's 5 and I really need to buy groceries. Please help, we are so confused. Can I buy groceries and gas with it or not? I don't want to be in trouble later down the road because I fed my family.

HI there,
You may want to contact your local SSA office with documentation of your need, such as a pending eviction, utility bills, ect.

I applied for SSI in 1/2007.i started receiving was approved in 2010. I received two checks for 2,200.00 then monthly payments of 639.00. I lived in Longview Wa at 752 Flordia,Street Apt 2 . I ended up going to prison in Sept 2011 i did not receive the lump sum of my back pay. I was released from prison in Nov 2016. I have reapplied for SSI I have told them several times that I was receiving SSI before I went to prison. The SSI people seem to be deaf or do not read your application. I have wrote it talk to them about my back pay and today a lady called me from out of state and confirmed it was once confirmed at Spokane office also I do have back pay from 2011. The Social Security office has my banks routing number for a direct deposit into my bank. I have taken my release papers in. Wh6 is it I was told to take my ID into office and repeat this the same thing over. Why is it they do not understand that I have back pay owed to me from 2011 and that ,that means I must of been on SSI before I went to prison. I read pamphlets in
While incarsarated and it states it shouldn't take me over 45days to reapply for my SSI and my back pay should of been paid to me. They act like I wasn't on it at all. I am very frustrated. The Social Security office had my phone number 2 numbers switched around there fault any body can look who works for them and see I wrote it right. Because of that they put my phone interview out until April 7th. In all actuality I shouldn't have to do all that again. Nothing has changed just put me back on it and give me my back pay and stop making feel like they are gang stalking me. This is what gang stalkers do mess with you mentally. They need to read my mental health records and quit making me feel uncomfortable and targeted . Why are they doing this ? My mental status hasn't changed. Can you tell me why they didn't do the 45days and put me back on it. I feel they are messing with me mentally.

Hi Shelley,
I'm sorry to hear all that! You may have received the entirety of your back pay from your earlier application, however we cannot tell if you did so as we are not affiliated with the SSA or the federal government.

Hi Michelle,
You may get the second payment then, however I could not say as that would require information we do not have access to as we are not affiliated with the SSA or the federal government.

Hi Sherry,
You may want to contact your local SSA office regarding this, while they do only count part of your income ( and financial resources, like the savings account) toward your child's eligibility, it may be a good idea to speak with the SSA for some more detailed information specific to your case. You can find a listing of them here:

I get $733 a month from ssi my lump sum is broken down into 3 payments the first two payments will be $2000 every six months and the third will be the rest of the lump sum my question is do ssi include the $733 with the remainder to make $2000 because i didn't get $2000 plus the $733 I was wondering if they gave me $1267 from my lump plus the $733 to equal $2000 ? Or do ssi just not give you the $733 because they give you the $2000 for that month ? Can you please help me figure this out if you can thanks
