Lump sum back payment

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I received two lump sum payments, but I have not spent all of the funds. I want to make a funeral arrangement and buy a car. How soon must I spend the lump sum payment.

Hi there,
you may want to bring some documentation of your need for the money, like an eviction notice, bills, ect. However it may be a good idea to contact your local office by phone as well just so they can schedule an appointment, if needed.

Hey I filed for my 2 year old daughter today I got a letter saying that the saa has received medical allowance for her claim. Can someone tell me if this means she is going to be approved? ?

Hi Crystal,
They will send you an "award letter" for your claim if your child's claim was approved. This may only mean that they meet the medical criteria to receive benefits.

Hi Ashleigh,
You may want to contact the SSA by phone at 1-800-772-1213, they can give you more information regarding the address.

Hi Pat,

Your back pay will be deposited via an electronic transfer. I can't say for sure where exactly it will go to. I would recommend calling the SSA and talking to a representative 1-800-772-1213.

Best Wishes,
Eric

Hi. I am the representative payee for my 21-year-old son receiving disability. This is the first year for me to complete the representative payee form. Gets confusing. A couple questions.
1) Is there a limit to how much can be placed into savings from his SSDI checks?
2) He did receive back pay. If there is a limit to savings, is this money counted as a resource?
3) Also, are there different rules applied to the use of the back pay funds?
4) Lastly, I see from prior questions here that there is mention of a time limit to spend back pay funds from SSI, is this the same for his back disability payments?
Thank you for you help here with everyone. Its great.

Hi Patty,
If your son is receiving SSDI benefits as a disabled adult child, then the restrictions regarding SSI would not apply as it is a separate program.

HI Jennifer,
If your husband is receiving SSDI benefits, then he would receive monthly benefits five months after approval, and he would receive his back pay about four months after he starts monthly benefits.

I recently moved. After 3 months they increased my benefit. I was told it would be retroactive from the date I moved, but haven't received that amount. Will I?

Hi Sergio,
I really could not say, as every case is different and can take varying amounts of time.
