volunteer work

An individual on disability seeking employment with us, asked to volunteer-work during June and July, then begin paid-work in August once her disability is discontinued. Is this something that is okay from the ER and EE standpoint?

Are there a certain number of hours she has to be limited to per week? Who do I tell her to contact to make sure she maintains her eligibility throughout? Lastly, can she be paid for work (short hours) while on disability?

BTW, this is for CA.

Hi there,
I really could not say, as it would depend on what program they receive benefits from, as that may effect their eligibility. However, they would be able to be paid for work while on disability. You may want to advise them to contact the SSA regarding any restrictions on work they may have.
