Lump sum back payment

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I received two lump sum payments, but I have not spent all of the funds. I want to make a funeral arrangement and buy a car. How soon must I spend the lump sum payment.

Hi Lesley,

Unfortunately, there is no black and white answer to when exactly he will get his payments. Best Wishes.

Hi Theresa,

The backpay installments will be made in three payments, at six month intervals. The first two payments can't be more than three times your maximum monthly benefit. The remainder of backpay will be paid in the third installment, regardless of the amount.

Hi Donnelle,

I am so sorry to hear that. You may be eligible for expedited payments from the SSA though. You can speak to a representative at 1-800-772-1213.

I have accumulated hospital and doctor bills.I summited mt Disablity app application in N0v 2016. I was approved after waiting 5 month. During what waiting period, I accrued all these medical expense. Will Medicare pay for any portions of these medical Bills, And if so, do I submit thru my Disability attorney or to the local SSA office?

Hi there,
Medicare may not be able to pay those bills as they are prior to your enrollment in Medicare.

Hi Robert,
If you were not covered under Medicare at the time you were treated, they may not cover those bills.

I let a friend of mine borrow money while she has been waiting for her ssdi backpay. Since then she does not appear to want to pay my money back. I have legal documentation notarized proving she owes me the money. Can I file documents putting a hold on her money. Legally what can I do?

Hi Joyce,
Generally SSDI benefits are not able to be garnished, you may want to consult the laws in your state regarding debt.

I was approved for my disability in Feb of 2017. I am now tring to get an advance on my back pay to fix the vehicle I bought. Turned in the paper work they wanted 48 days ago and now they have no record of this paper work and my case manager is working from home bt knows nothing about my paper work. I have been paying the insurance on my truck for 2 months now. How longshould this process take and is there any thing I can do to hurry it along like I said been waiting48 days and now have to start over. What can I do ?? Not able to get to Dr or any thing else I need to get to??
