Lump sum back payment

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I received two lump sum payments, but I have not spent all of the funds. I want to make a funeral arrangement and buy a car. How soon must I spend the lump sum payment.

Hi Robert,
I'm not really sure! You may want to contact the SSA regarding that as they would be able to determine where that money has gone.

Hi, I received SSI money.. I plan to purchase a brand new car 2018 $34,000 for my friend in my name but it is her money to put down on a car payment and after that we both will sign the notarized letter stating that the vehicle is belonging to her. I only help her to buy it because she not qualify for the loan in her name.. Will it hurt my SSI payment?..

Hi there,
Yes it will as that would be considered a financial resource if you already own a car. In addition, it may not be a good idea if you get the loan in your name as you may be on the hook for the car payments.

Hi Shawanda,
Depending on what benefits he receives, you may receive your child's backpay in installments six months apart.

Hi, I been receiving ssi since 2010 I just recently was notified From ssi about survivor benefits from my dad. Im approved but my case is still getting processed. I was told ssi can only give you 5years of back pay.! && I was getting under 500 when I used to get survivor benefits When I was a teenager. How much money you think Ssi go take out beening that I been getting ssi since 2010 ?

HI Lataya,
SSI and survivor's benefits are different, and as such what you would receive may vary. It may be a good idea to contact the SSA regarding this.

if I got my 1st retro payment installment on 7/25/17, does that mean I'll get the 2nd one on 1/25/18?

HI Mija,
You may, however I really could not say as we are not affiliated with the SSA and do not have information about your case.

Hi Mary,
I'm sorry to hear that! Back pay from your benefits may be used for rent. If you're in doubt about how you can use those funds, you may want to contact the SSA regarding this.
