Lump sum back payment

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I received two lump sum payments, but I have not spent all of the funds. I want to make a funeral arrangement and buy a car. How soon must I spend the lump sum payment.

Hi there,
The USPS has varying transit times for mail, depending on origin and destination.

My daughter will receive benefits from her father who is disabled. She is expecting a large lump sum, will that be divided? My son is now 18 but he will receive a one time lump sum a little less than my daughters, will his be divided? We requested the Direct Express card, will the lump sum go onto that?

Hi Kristel,
If they are getting benefits through SSDI, then they would get the benefits as one lump sum.

Hi Alisha,
Generally you may want and EOD that matches your Alleged Onset Date that you submitted when you filed, but it never hurts to ask.

Thanks for your response Bryan.. Last year I was on unemployment for the first six months and the last six months of the year I earned $7400 this was in 2015 .Can the judge give me back pay during that time because I was diagnosed with some of my disabilities that year ?

Hi Alisha,
Yes, the judge may award you back pay if you were determined unable to work during that time, but it ultimately depends on your established date of onset.

Hi Alisha,
The SSA will pay you retroactive benefits if they have determined that you were entitled to benefits and the past that they did not pay.

Hi Rose,
I really could not say as all cases are different, and as such it may take different lengths of time for cases to be decided.

I was just approved for ssdi when will I receive my first monthly check. And hoe long before I receive my lump sum . I was told by the magistrate himself. It will only go back to Dec 2014 as of my 49th Birthday. I don't quite understand if I will get as or ssdi..I have no idea of how much I will get monthly due to so, much confusion . My attorney said I got as but I was told they will go back just shy of 2 Years and will receive a lump sum and after reading on here . I am now confused about the lump sum because someone stated if it's ssi then you don't get a lump sum ...oh boy

Hi Chrissy,
If you receive SSI you would get your back pay as three installments rather than one lump sum, and if you were receiving SSDI then you would receive your back pay as one lump sum .

Hi Alisha,
You may have your benefits expedited if you have a condition that the SSA will expedite the benefits process for.

Hi Bryan my hearing was a dire need . I was being evicted from my home . My daughter works part time and my five year old granddaughter here as well we have no vehicle . I contact the social services transportation sometimes they are unable to meet the dates that I have to go to doctors appointments and I have to reschedule. If I'm approved can i ask my local social security for money off my back pay? My claim was ssi/ssd and if so what do I do?
