SSDI length of time for back pay?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

When I initially met with my attorney, I was told that back pay would go back one year from application, minus 5 months (I had already waited over 2 years to file because I was told I would have "full recovery" after my 2 fusion surgeries). I've received my acceptance letter but not my back pay yet, and during my search for more info on the process I came across a SSDI page stating that even if it takes 24 months for your claim to get approved, you can only receive pay for 12 months. Can anybody help clarify this for me please?

SSDI ruling and Medicare

I recently received my fully favorable ruling after my long-overdue application (my app date was 3 years after approved date of onset). The judge agreed with my disability onset date in 2008, and I've been told that the further back the onset date, the more likely to qualify for Medicare and the quicker you will be enrolled. Is there any truth to this? I appreciate any clarification and information.

SSDI income restrictions

I have a friend on SSDI who is struggling physically and financially. He works part time up to the SSDI dollar limits. Our Church and I and some of his other friends are considering donating money to our friend to help with his expenses. Will this jeopardize his SSDI benefit? Or perhaps can we personally pay for some of his expenses heat, electricity, food without a penalty?

Recieved lump sum

I recieved a three month lump sum payment 3 days ago but have not recieved a letter saying I was approved. I signed up for direct deposit when applying. Is that unusual? I am terrified it is a glitch or some kind of payment based on the expectation i will be approved because I have hiv/aids. I am baffled the money came before any notice
