Hello, I am 4’11”, have arthritis in various places, have had various surgeries to correct these, also have Celiac Disease, a disability in itself. Do I qualify for this?

I was diagnosed with ornithine-transcarbymalse deficiency at 14 months which results in my liver’s inability to produce an enzyme which breaks down protein. This leaves me at 4’11, 92 lbs, lower lung capacity, anemic, and many weeklong+ hospital visits where I am unconscious. Do I qualify for disability?

Hi Sam,

ornithine-transcarbamylase deficiency can qualify for Social Security disability, so you may potentially qualify.

Hi There,

She won't be able to qualify for her height alone. She could qualify for her anxiety, however that isn't always the easiest case to win.

I live on Long Island in NY. I had a question to see if I qualify for social security benefits because I am 4'9" now. Since reading your replays I see that I don't qualify.
A year ago I fell and injured myself. I had surgery and have been left with 25% disability. The doctor considers me 100% disabled to go to my job, career that I have been in for 31 years.
I have been receiving workmanship compensation. I think it will end soon. If I receive Social Security Disability benefits will I be allowed to try to work a part time job.

Hi Susan,

I am sorry to hear that. But yes, you are able to work part time while on SSDI benefits. However, if you earn more than $850 a month, that could trigger a trial work period form the SSA.

I was told by my doctor that I may be able to get disability because of my height

Hi Bobbie,

You will not qualify based on your height alone. If you have another condition found in the SSA Blue Book then you may qualify.

Hi Heather,

Not for your height alone, but you could for your chronic pain if it inhibits your ability to work for over 12 months.

You could for your depression and anxiety. However, you wouldn't be able to qualify for your height alone.
