Hi Brian,

It just means that they are still reviewing the disability part of your claim. To qualify, you will have to meet both the disability and technical qualifications.

I applied for SSDI online 08/14/2019 and less than 2 months later today 10/08/2019 I was provided an update online stating: A medical decision has been made and we are working to process your benefits. Could that mean that my case was possibly approved and they are now in process of calculating my benefit back pay and monthly payment amounts?

Hello! I am currently waiting for SSDI to finish with my medical portion, but that made me start thinking about all the ER visits records). Do you happen to know if that would have been available when they requested records from my GP? My RA Dr. sent his records but I know the ER visits wouldn't normally show up with his stuff. Thank you for any enlightenment!

I submitted a question through the forum over a week ago (around Oct. 17, 2019) and have yet to see it posted or receive an answer to the question. Why can’t I find the question and why wasn’t it answered

I got a denial letter from SSA and is says the for SSDI was denied. It also says SSI was denied because my spouse diagnosis is severe enough. I was never married. Would the SSA resend the correct denial reason? Or would that qualify me for SSI due to this error?

Hi Estella,

I would definitely contact the SSA about this! If you were denied other reasons, a new denial letter should state why.

Hi Kandy,

That means you have been appointed to received your child's disability benefits. You must keep a record of expenses and must be able to provide the SSA with a report that shows how your child'd benefits were used.

I’m a 59 years old who recently has to early retire due to several progressive deteriorating health issues, mainly chronic fatigue, shortness of breath and swelling of legs and hands. Primary physician wrote a letter outlining reason he recommended that I retire: congenital heart (4 open heart surgeries: PDA, coarctation of aorta, VSD) still unprepared: Mitral valve prolapse, bicuspid valve disease, stokes, degenerative lumbar Spine, chronic bronchitis, asthma, shortness of breath, chronic fatigue, hypertension, bout with meningitis, carpel tunnel, CHF, Varicose vein removed in my leg, bunion surgery, edema, moderate sleep apnea, and several other ailments, if those conditions are not enough for one person to endure. Filed disability 6/2019 and I was denied initially by DDS 9/13/2019. I appealed immediately though a legal rep 9/17/2019. On 10/9/2019 the status online read as follows:

Appeal Under Review
Hearing
10/9/2019
“A medical decision has been made and we are working to process your decision. A Social Security Representative may contact you or your appointed representative directly if we need any additional documents or information.”

10/9/2019
“Appeal Under Review
Your case file was sent to an Administrative Law Judge’s Hearing Office. We started reviewing the case and developing evidence to support your hearing request”

09/17/2019
“We started reviewing your request for a hearing.”

09/17/2019
“Your request for an appeal was submitted.”

October 25th I received a letter in the mail from the SSA hearing and review office requesting I complete a medical update, medication, work background update which indicates the info was last updated on 10/17 and an authorization form. The letter indicated for me to mail the documents back for their office to review my case to determine if they can make a fully favorable decision without a hearing. It went into say if they could not make an OTR decision they would notify me of the scheduled hearing. However, prior to this letter the online status states a “medical decision has been made”. Please help me understand the SSA updates. It’s been a very confusing process!

Hi SAT,

It sounds like the SSA is still evaluating your claim and if you qualify. The phrase "medical decision has been made" is very common. It does not mean that you were approved or denied. The SSA is still looking into other factors that impact your eligibility. Best of luck!
