go to the Social Security office and tell them you need the money for whatever reason and you can get it all in one lump sum that's what I did
Thanks for sharing! It's important to have a good reason for the lump sum for SSI as they would need proof that it's for dire need.
I applied for SSDI back in January 3,2015, after so many deniel I finally was approved December, 2017, but the judge change the onset date that I became disabled on October 26, 2015, wish is crazy cause due to my disability I haven’t been able to work sene November 2014, I had all kind of crazy symptoms, almost paralyzed due to a dramatic civicle compression that wasn’t discovered until February 2016. Single mom of three kids and my house on Forclosure, in the interview they asked me how did I pay my bills, I told them the truth that I haven’t been able to pay my mortgage and most of the time me and my kids was with out light and water , that my brother would lend me money here and their but it wasn’t a gift, but money I agree to pay back, well they took that information and ran with it and put in the system as income , so my back pay benefits was only $470 instead of the full amount. My brother wrote a letter explaining that it wasn’t a gift and that it was a loan. I need to bring my mortgage up to date, so I won’t lose the house and I need to pay my brother back cause I feel really bad that this has happened, my question is can I appeal this , I’m already appealing the onsete date, but can they do this or is this is something I can appeal. These last three years has been a very bad for my teenager, it has really taken a tole on them , being the kids on the block with the water or lights always disconnected. Thank God I finally got approved, but if someone as the answer to my question, can they count the money I received as a loan that I have to pay back as an income and deducted from my back pay?
You may want to have documentation of the loan from your brother to you, such as a promissory note.
Just got approved, but can't access my profile to put direct deposit do I have to wait for the money
You may want to contact the SSA for some more information about this.
I had the small amount put into my checking and taken back out does this mean my checks will start soon? If so what's the wait time now.
they may have made the small deposit to confirm that that is your bank account, I could not say that it is an indication that your checks will start soon.
I received my first check sep.3 20017 and I still have not receivd my back pay I have debt card that my payments go to will my back pay go to my card and will my back pay bee paid on the 3rd of the month or any day.
You may want to contact the SSA for information on how your benefits would be deposited. You can find a listing of offices here:
After waiting over two and a half years for decision I finally got one in October 2017 and then late December just before Christmas I got my 3-year back paycheck which was over $50,000 and it threw my annual earnings through the roof and now I have to pay back your subsidy I had all year for my medical health insurance through the marketplace and possibly $15,000 worth of Medical Services HELLP!!!¡
I'm sorry to hear about that! We're not affiliated with the SSA or the federal government and as such we would not be able to resolve this. You may want to contact the SSA regarding this.
It is illegal for them to hold your back if u have a need housing bills a car or car trouble stove fridge ect ect. They have to release some to u but it can be no more then 9,999.99 at a time I dealt with this in 2005 and now doing it for my husband.
It may not be illegal for them to do so, however you may want to contact the SSA with documentation of your need for the money, for example an eviction or collections notice.
I got final fully approved on Oct,26, 2017. I have recieved first 3 monthly payments and lawyer has been paid. I am still awaiting awards letter and back pay? Any clue on how long??
I really could not say, you may want to contact the SSA regarding this. Generally they would send back pay around four months after you start receiving benefits.
I was approved Jan 25 I was told I have two onset dates. One March of 2016 and another for May 2017. I was approved for both SSI and SSID. How does the back payment work. How is it caculated? Ive heard they will take 5 months back pay away
I had to file for SSDI 6/6/2017 resulting from a TBI which I have lived and worked w since 1995 23 years I’m hemi paralyzed my left side is painful and doesn’t function I got approved 12/2/2017 so i hope I will receive 6 months back pay I don’t know if it will come all at once or at all I haven’t received my 1st SSDI Check yet
Back pay for SSDI is paid out in a lump sum about four months after you start receiving monthly benefits.
I filed my initial disability claim on 08/2013, and I was denied on all my appeals, that lasted until 03/2016. I filed a new claim on 06/2017 and was approved at the Reconsideration stage 01/2018, but the Appeals Council stated that I could use 01/2016 as my onset date. How will my back pay be calculated?
Your back pay would be calculated by your current onset date of 01/2016
Ok. I started seeing my Dr in 14. Applied for disability 7/2015. Had appeal 1/2018. Judge said he put in for my disability. Ok the lawyer said my Dr records only had actual info from 7/16. Not sure why bc I seen him for the 2 years prior.so my lawyer had me sign a paper of onset from 7/16 he said bc when I applied my onst date was from 2014 but no records so I had to put 7/16. But I applied a yr before that. How does that work with backpay. My social worker friend said it would go to 7/15. But I googled it and couldn't find an actual answer.
You may receive back pay from your established onset date.
Hi everyone, I apply many times and have given up, cause filling out papers gets to me, I have a problem with y tail bone that I can’t sit too long and other health problems. My question is I became disabled on September 23 2017- I got a call from social security telling me I was awarded for social security disability then I was told I am going to get a letter confirming this, so I did, and it said I will be getting only 389.00 on April for surviving March, and May and June and so on. The I called them to find out if I will receive retroactive (back payment) I was told Nope cause the law. New rules. Just wondering if this is true cause the person I spoke to didn’t bother to check anything.
I could not say, we are not affiliated with the SSA and as such we do not have information about your case to verify this.
I heard on news that they closed 500 social security offices and a lot of folks lost there job. And who ever needs to visit social security office has to travel very far to the nearest office. They are short handed too
I can't say for sure if that's true or not, but since the government shutdown is now over, people should be getting their regular checks with no issue.
It’s been 90 days since my disability hearing (in Nashville Tennessee)I’ve not heard anything my lawyer felt the judge was leaning toward a partially favorable decision? What is average wait time? I’ve not had a steady job since 2014 and no income at all since middle of 2015 thanks for any info you can provide
I could not say, you may want to contact the SSA regarding your case. Wait times can vary as every case is different.
If a partially favorable decision what onset date would be best guess at what the judge will go by ? First onset listed 10/2015, or the date the social security interviewer suggested based on my employment longevity of11/2014 or the date I turned “55” ? Which was in 2017
There are many factors that determine an onset date, I could not say what yours would be as we don't have any information on your case as we are not affiliated with the SSA.
Quick question i received my ssi backpay,
Now i wonder how long till i get my ssdi backpay. It has been 6months long on ssdi
Thanks for replay
SSDI back pay generally comes about four months after you start receiving monthly benefits.
Who can you call to check on back pay because when I call SSA they claim to know nothing about it?
Have you tried calling the SSA hotline 1-800-772-1213.
I have been waiting for 4 years for disabilty. How much back pay should i recieve?
You may be eligible for benefits starting from your established onset date. I really could not say how much as it can vary.
Had my hearing Feb 2nd 2018. Judge made a fully fav for SDI and SSDI ruling from the bench. Informed her of my homelessness and financial situation. Will be owned 60,000 in back pay. Wondering if this might be fast tracked for paying me?
You may be able to have it expedited due to dire need, you may want to contact the SSA regarding your case.
How did you find out the amount you would be payed and how long till you received it? I am in same boat with a fully favorable decision being processed but can not seem to get answers on the amount.
All of that information should be in the letter you receive once a decision is made! You just may not have received it yet if it is still processing.
I applied in 2015 when I literally crawled up 3 flights of stairs after work. Due to arthritis and back pain. I was turned down because I tried to work. I applied again in 2017 because I couldn't work and pain was too great. I received a call from SSDI that I was now approved but would only get payment for 2018 not 2015. How is that right?
If you re-apply rather than appeal your case, the SSA may use a later Established Onset of Disability (EOD) date for your case.
In the last serval years The only ssdi increased my money to 4 dollars. Wow unbelievable .......
I am sorry to hear that. Wishing you nothing but the best.
Hi I was recently approve for social security benefits January 2017 but I just started receiving my benefits this month... they saying the withholding my benefits from January 2017 to December 2017 an they said they may have to reduce it because I was receiving ssi at the time! My benefits check is 746.50 monthly an I was receiving 715 in ssi fir that year ... I was worderning if they do reduce it how much will they reduce it by
We aren't affiliated with the SSA, so I cannot say for sure. Wishing you nothing but the best.
I got approved and got my 1st check in January of 2018. when will I get my back pay as I actually applied in 2015. I am about to lose everything. I am receiving SSDI.
You may be able to get backpay from the initial date when you applied.
