This is actually not up to the SSA to decide. Child Services handles child support. Some SSI recipients have to pay a portion of their SSI payments to children, and some do not. It all depends on what your family court determines.
I was recently approved for SSI disability benefits they owe me $10,500 in back pay if I'm not wrong according to my paperwork they want to pay me $159 a month until it's paid off I need to buy a car and move
You should get your first SSI payment shortly, so I would recommend saving it and parcelling it out monthly to pay off those bills until you receive your next installment.
I received part of my ssi back pay of 2199 a few weeks ago, bills ate that up immediately, now my trailer is in dire need of repairs b4 the winter, can I get more of my money from the ssa?
You will unfortunately need to wait another 6 months for your next back pay installment. The only times these are expedited is if you have a dire medical need for doctors' payments.
hi i first filed in march of 2012 when i first became disabled but i was denined i filed 2 more times after that and i just fileled again on the 25 of july i have an appoinment but im not sure whens going to happen they want to me have a bank account is this a good thing or a bad thing plz help
They will need you to have a bank account because all SSDI/SSI payments are made electronically now, but the SSA will also set up some recipients with debt cards to use to spend the funds.
i just got paper in the mail to fill out for both ssi and disability but i was alrady denied disability so dose this mean they are going to redermin it
they may be in the redetermination process. It may be a good idea to contact a disability advocate or attorney about your case if you were already denied. If you fill out the form on the left of this page, or go here:
we can have one reach out to you.
they have me coming in for a appoinment with my bank info usally when i apply i get denied right away this time i have to go down to the office
They may be going forward with your case then!
thank you its just i been applying for so long and this is the first time im being called into the office
No Problem! You're very welcome.
so what should i expect when i go in like i said thi is the first timethey have me coing to the office im a little worried that they willl denie me right then and there do the check a pesons credit is so im screwed plz tell me what kind of questions are the ging to ask and if i should bring alll the meds im taking
The SSA does not check your credit, You should bring any medical records that you have and all your financial information. Many people are denied after their first application, so it may be a good idea to speak with a disability advocate or attorney, as they can help you through the process of appeals. If you fill out the form here:

I got 2 months backpay from ca sdi on 7-27-2016 when can i expect my next payment. thank you
You should get your next installment at the end of January 2017.
hi my name is rose i recently filed for ssi on the 25th of July and recently got a letter for an interview this will be the first time since i have been filing since 2012 when i first became disabled they want me to bring in my bank info but i don't have one yet i have to come up with the 25 doller activactoin free to start the bank account how so my question is if im aspproved how much back pay will i recive
If you refiled for SSI in July, you will not be entitled to any back pay. This is because SSI back pay starts from the most recent date of your application, not when you became disabled.
i have been appling since 2012 witch is when i first became disabled
Your eligibility would only be from the time you filed, and if you had re-filed, then only the time you had re-filed may be considered for back pay eligibility.
i first filed in 2012 and never heard back from them so i went to the office and they have it on recored that i been disabled since march of 2012 witch is when i first filed so my question is why did it take so long for them to get back to me
They generally send a letter with a decision on your application, if you've moved in the last few years they may not have updated your information.
i havent moved now will i get back pay from that far back
If your DOD (disability onset date) is from 2012, then yes, you could be entitled to up to four years of back payments.
How long n does the social security have to givee my first intaent ony back pay.
You should expect back pay around 4 months after you receive your first monthly check.
Can I use my daughters lump sum money to pay back rent and bills
Most likely, no. You could potentially use her monthly payments on those, but back pay is ONLY to be used on items for the child, such as paying for her doctor's appointments or modifying your home to make it more "disability-friendly."
hi i know i message before but what i was trying to find out is that when i first filed in 2012 and was denied they called me up and said they were sending me paperwork to file for both ssi/ssdi and the have me coming in on the 12 of august with my bank info im confused is thios normal for them to reconcider what they said in 2012 after i took them to court plz help
They may have gone forward with your application and they may have approved it!
Due for my 3rd lu o sum in sept. When they give me that payment will my monthly checks stop until it is spent within the 9 months?
Your benefits would be affected if your back pay puts you over the income and resource limits for SSI.
So if they stop my monthly ssi checks when i get my 3rd lump sum payment, why do they say that you get 9months to spend it before it effects you
They may have stopped your checks for other eligibility reasons, but it may be that you did not meet the financial eligibility limit. Those lump sums become a financial resources after nine months.
im stilll confused dose this mean i will get back pay or am i not entiled to back pay last time i filed was last year and never heard back from them so if im approved to i get the back pay from last year
I am not sure, however you may only be eligible for back pay for from the time of your most recent application.
I need more stuff and took all measures to show what I need for my child and they are saying the prices are high for the bed which would help my Child with her disable and the washer and dryer due to her pooping and peeing everything through pull up and need to wash laundry every other day or it will sit all week and smell and full of ammonia wat can I do need help getting this money I print pics online with price and told it was to high

If you have been denied for SSI for your child, it may be a good idea to speak with a disability advocate or attorney, as they can help you through the process of appeals. If you fill out the form to the left or go here:

I am the rep payee for my 57 year old brother. I supported him by paying his phone, electric, heat, home repairs, rent, etc until he got on SSI. I have all the receipts. He agreed to reimburse me when he got approved. The back payment was received on 12/28/15, for the months of August through December. Is it ok for me to be reimbursed from the back payment? We only mly have a month until it will count as a resource and make him ineligible. There are no other necessary expenses to spend it on.
You may want to contact the SSA office that helped your brother, as they can go over his specific case and give you some guidance regarding the back pay. Alternately, you can also set up a special needs trust for your brother, those types of trusts are not regarded as a resource by the SSA.
I receive my first installment in February but haven't received my second one. should I call because it's been 6 months or should I just wait.
It may be a good idea to contact the SSA if you're not receiving your back pay in a timely manner.
I was new to SSI & when my son got i. When we received the lump sum about two months later our family car caught on fire it was a HUGE mess! Well I used some of the money to put a down payment, pay a few of the car payments and insurance as well. My son was in therapy daily and we needed a car! I didn't know that you had to ask because I read the handbook and it stated that the payee could use funds for a down payment. Well now my son is in school about to be in kindergarten. He need a compression vest! But they never sent me my second lump sum of his back pay. It was supposed to arrive on the 22 of July but, still hasn't come in! I have called and nothing has happened as of yet.. Did I do something wrong for them not to release the funds to me?
I'm not really sure of the particulars of your own case, but it could be possible that you were determined to be ineligible for SSI. I would contact the SSA to confirm you are still eligible for SSI.
My son receives SSI and has one more backpay payment. Is it possible for me to put a rush on that payment to purchase a much needed car.He has doctors visit exc.and we have trouble keeping his appointments.
You may be able to do so, if you contact the SSA with documentation of hardship (like bills, ect) they may be able to get the money to you faster.
Hi, I am a recent widow with a 12 yr old son. My husband filed for disability in 2014 we lost almost everything. Almost Including our home. If it hadnt been fir my mother paying the remaining balance of $38000 off on the day of foreclosure we would be homeless. I am a housewife who home schools our son due to absences at school and cronic migraines. I have taken care of both my husband and son full time thr past 3 years. My husband was denied at first but filed for a hearing that was to late his pain, depression and losing everything we owned with no help from goverment on medical bills , food stamps, medical for our son , not a thing. He took his own life June 5th of this year. The hearing wasJune 21st which I had to on go on in his place, that was the worst thing a greving wife should have to go through. Expecially 2 weeks after hearing a gunshot outside and holding the man you love more than life itself in your arms as he dies. Needless to say i sat through it and the judge said he would rush a verdict but no longer than 30 days. Its been how long and still no word. I called the lawyer and he said it was at the underwriter. What does thst mean and what happens now? My world is falking apart and it seems because my husband once had money before oil bust we dont deserve the help they hand out, i am tired and needa break in this mess of not being the right anything to get help for my son and I. What is the process from here i cant lose anymore and owe so much debt with no high school degree or GED. And survior beneifits appointment is finally on the 15th but TV still im list
I'm sorry to hear about all that!
The underwriting stage is when your case is being evaluated. As cases can vary, the time it takes for them to evaluate your case and move to the next stage will vary.
Does that really happen that if u don't spend the amount from the month before they take it back
