I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?

Your children may be able to, it may be a good idea to contact your local SSA office regarding this as they'd have the most accurate information for your specific case.
My kids father is handicapped and has been for 7 years now. He has no work history and ive been told by social security and child support my kids aren't eligible for anything. Is there anything else I can do? I believe he gets some sort of payments from the government but I don't know what

Unfortunately, your children may not be eligible for benefits as the SSA only offers auxiliary benefits based on work history, and it seems as if the children's father is receiving benefits based on his income and resources.

Unfortunately, your child may not be eligible for survivor's benefits as those are based on work history. However, it may still be a good idea to contact the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 to see if any benefits would be available.

As Medicaid rules varies by state, you may want to contact the office in Michigan that handles disability benefits, they'd be better able to give you detailed information based on your case.
My grandson was disabled since birth in 1997. Initially he lived with his mother until my husband and I got custody in 2000. His mother received his full SSI, however, we were told he couldn't get his full check with us.
When he turned, 18 years old, he requalified for SSI. I asked the SS worker if he would ever be able to receive his full benefits at which point she informed us that he should have been getting the full amount all along.
How far back does SSI back pay?

Hi Pamela,
The SSA may pay back pay from the time of the Established onset date, which is the date that they consider someone disabled.
I'am a provider for My Roommate i receive ssi and He is also on ssdi if we were to marry how will this work? Do i get added on to His ssdi and can i keep working ad his care taker He had Back Surgery and needs to Be Helped.

Hi there,
if you are a person's spouse, you would be eligible for SSDI benefits based on your spouse's work history under certain circumstances. Additionally, the other person may become ineligible for benefits if they are receiving SSDI benefits based off of their parent's work record and get married.

I have been receiving SSD for 2 years and I got married last year. Are my stepchildren and husband eligible to receive benefits through my disability and if so, does the process take long?

Hi there,
Your stepchild may be eligible, but your husband may not be eligible for benefits. The time it takes depends, but if you have already adopted the child it may be a bit shorter than if you had not.

Hi there,
you may be able to depending on what type of disability benefits you receive. If you receive SSI, those types of benefits are not available. If you are on SSDI benefits, then your adopted children may be able to receive benefits based off of your work record.
I hav custody of my daughter her mom doesn't pay support cause she draws ssi can my daughter draw anything.

Unfortunately, SSI benefits do not include auxiliary benefits for dependents.
