Lump sum back payment

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I received two lump sum payments, but I have not spent all of the funds. I want to make a funeral arrangement and buy a car. How soon must I spend the lump sum payment.

Hi Jeffrey,
We are not affiliated with the SSA and as such we could not determine if you are owed another back pay installment, however I do know that the SSA pays out SSI lump sums in a maximum of three installments, with the first two installments being a maximum of $2000. You may only have qualified for less that $4000 in back pay.

Hi Christopher,
You may have been overpaid for various reasons, including if your income during the time did not match what they calculated your income as. Additionally, your children's SSI payments may be considered as part of your back pay, and so they may not want to pay out double what they have already paid.

I viewed my social security disability CD. I had my local Social Security help me fill out my application. I noticed on the CD that the representative that help me fill out the application had made comments because I had called twice and ask concerning questions when I first applied .He said I may need a payee in one of his notes. My psychiatrist checked off on my MRFC forms he filled out I am capable of handling my benefits. I only called because I wanted to ask questions concerning ssi payments . I am now on hearing stage and I have a dire need hearing . Will the judge make me have a payee? I don't spend money frivolously.

Hi Alisha,
I really would not be able to say if you would be assigned a payee as I do not know the details of your case and we are not affiliated with the SSA.

Hi Jasmine,
You may be eligible for presumptive disability, however it may be a good idea to speak with a disability advocate or attorney to make sure that you're submitting all the paperwork properly. If you fill out the form on the left we can have one reach out to you.

Hi Alisha,
They may decide to issue an OTR decision, but if you were denied on the OTR decision, you still have the option to appeal.

Hi Rose,
Back pay is usually paid four months after you start receiving monthly benefits.

Hi Rose,
I think the SSA may still have your application in process and needs some extra information from you. It may be a good idea to contact your local SSA office so that the caseworker there can go over where you are in the application process.
