Lump sum back payment

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I received two lump sum payments, but I have not spent all of the funds. I want to make a funeral arrangement and buy a car. How soon must I spend the lump sum payment.

Hi Casey,
You may not be able to as you may only be eligible for back pay from the time you apply, rather than from when you first became eligible.

Hi there,
If you are in control of your mother's funds, it may be a better idea to open a dedicated amount to deposit that money, rather than cashing it.

Hi there,
You may only be eligible for benefits from the time of your application, rather than the time that your spouse passed.

I received my awards letter june10 2016. My back pay letter came shortly afterward. Prior to that I became homeless and borrowed money to keep my car and basically survive. My local office has provided a few low payments but not enough to pay back and find a place to live. It took the judge over 6 mo to make her decision. My local office will not help me anymore in fact they wanted an itemized list of what I spent the money on and said they would seek an executor to handle my money. I am a 61 ur old female w/bipolar disorder and other mental disorders but all I am trying to do is make my payments. By next week I will lose electric and hot water can not make my car payments so I will not be able to attend self help groups or dr appointments. I received the back pay in early June. Can u please hp me . . I am asking if everyone could put this as their status for 1 hour. I'm pretty sure I know the ones that will. Think of someone you know or love who has or has had MS. My hope is that in 2016 a cure will be found. Will you post it for 1 hour? To honor those who have fought or are fighting Multiple Sclerosis. To copy & Paste, simply hold your finger on the text and hit "copy" then go to where you'd post a status update, hold your finger on the screen and hit "paste".

Thank you to all of those who copy and paste this on their status!

Hi Donna,
I'm sorry to hear about this! It may be a good idea to contact the SSA and let them know that you have an urgent need for the rest of your back pay, they may be able to expedite it.

Hi Rose,
I wouldn't worry! The SSA may be assessing you for your problems during your visit to their doctor.

hi Sherri,
We are not in any way affiliated with the SSA. However, if they have already approved you, you may be able to expedite your back pay by giving them documentation of your need for expedited back pay.

Hello , My son (9) has received the first back payment check ? His lump sum is back dated from Feb 2015 / Sept 2016 . My question is do to you I was also unemployed from May until presently I'm still unemployed is there anyway that I can ask or request for them to give me the second portion of his of his settlement instead of receiving funds over a six month basis ?

Hi Tamara,
You may be able to have your child's back pay expedited if you can show there is an urgent need for it to the SSA, they may be able to expedite it in that case.
