You can go on the SSA's website and apply for his SSDI on his behalf.
My mom was my payee I got it switched into my own name my benfets were sent to her card and she refuses to contact me or social security what happens to my funds for this month?
You should notify the SSA immediately of this.
hi iwould like my neice to be my ssdi payee can she start recieving immediate checks that have been suspended due to a payee lapse
You have to go to your local SSA office to do so.
I just received a letter from Social Security stating they would like to appoint someone besides me to be representative for my son. Why would that be. Everything has been handled correctly.
That is very odd--you can always call the SSA toll free at 1-800-772-1213 to get the exact reason why they want you to change.
I haven't been my son's representative payee since he began receiving disability. He is now 19. I received a letter saying they wanted to replace me with a different Payee. I have done everything according to the rules and wonder why that would be?
Is it possible they want him to become his own payee?
I want my SSDI card changed and in my possession cause the lady who has the card I just found out she is my adopted mother and the card has my name on it not hers so it should be in my possession not hers or I'm taking her to court.
That is terrible! You'll need to do that with the SSA though--call 1-800-772-1213 to begin the process of getting that sorted.
I have been on social security disability for 18 years and also I have had a payee. I just turned 66 and no longer on disability I went into social security on Jan 13, 2018 to change my payee to myself and I took a letter from my physiatrist. I have not heard anything the case worker when I applied told me that she would have to email my doctor a form and my sister a notice that I am changing payee's Here it is Feb 19, and I have not heard a word. I called the case worker a dozen times and left messages no reply and then I went in last week and the lady could not tell me anything she said there was nothing on my file. I am worried that they are gonna asked me to pay back social security disability money since I am so well to take care of my own funds. Could that be what is taking so long they are doing an audit.
I am sorry to hear that! Unfortunately it often takes up to five months to hear back from the SSA.
I receive ssi and feel i no longer need a payee. When i apply to ssa to handle my own money :How long will it take to become my own payee?
It's tough to say, because every case is different. I would go down to your local SSA office and speak with someone there.
Who holds the ssi card the payee?
That's a great question. The Payee should hold the card, but I would recommend calling 1-800-772-1213 and talking to the SSA to see if they can clarify.
If I'm in the process of getting disability can I be a payee for my niece?
It's possible. You may want to ask someone at the Social Security office regarding that
My Payee is also my landlord and she is telling me to leave and my check is controlled by her and I dont get a dime of it. It all goes into her account. I am wanting to change my payee and I have to leave. What should I do. I am without a car and cant go to the SSI myself. Can I do this over the phone or online
Normally, you have to do that at your local SSA office. Since you are in a unique situation, I would recommend calling the SSA and asking them what next steps to take. Best of luck.
Hello. My uncle just became his own payee. His soon to be ex wife may have cancled his card. Does the ssi board truley cancle the csrd id you change over the payee?.
I would recommend speaking with a SSA representative regarding that.
I have been on ssi and disability for a few years and i have a payee. The judge said after 2 years i could apply to get it changed to me and my own account. How do i go about doing that? My payee lives in another state and im ready to take over. What are the requierments to do that. How can i accomplish the change from him to me?
Hi Bonnie, you can do that at your local SSA office. To make an appointment fill out that paperwork. You can call the SSA toll free at 1-800-772-1213.
can i change my payee with out going to bington i was wondering if i could do it over the phone.
You normally have to do it in person. But you may want to call that office to see if they can do it over the phone.
Change my payee to a new payee to a new payee by today
We aren't able to do that because we aren't affiliated with the SSA. You have to schedule an appointment at your local office to do so.
I have been on ssi for a few years now and my payee lives out of state. I would like to get my checks put in my name so i can start being my own payee. Hown do i go about it? And what are the requierments for me to have my checks put into my name?
You would have to schedule an appointment at your local SSA office to do so.
My uncle became the payer of my mom when I was young. He took her away from the family with not contact from us in years how can I change this I haven’t spoke to my mom in years.
You would have to schedule an appointment at your local SSA office.
This has nothing to do with my payee i already got those answers. I searched to find the right depatment to go to but i keep coming up blank. I have been getting messages from this num...434-288-0133 they leave a message for me to contact them about my checks.Saying something like they will cut me off. i have left plenty messages for them. No call back. What should i do to find out what its about? I have tried about everything i could think of. Can you give me some advice?
Hi my mom my payee I don't see nun of the money I just moved with my aunt and she only give me half what do I half to do so that she don't get it anymore
You can schedule an appointment at your local SSA office to change your payee.
I recently was found able to handle my own money from Social Security. My grandfather was my representative payee until recently. Social Security recently sent him a letter asking him to send the remaining funds (in form of a check) to my local SSA office. He is going to mail the check to SSA for the remaining money in his possession. My question is, will I receive the money he is sending them? And usually how soon would I receive the money? And how would I receive it (direct deposit, check etc)?
Yes, you will since those are now your funds and you will receive it via a direct deposit.
I can't say for sure when you'll get it though, I would speak with someone at your local SSA office about that.
My mother in law was my husband's payee he passed recently I borrowed 4000.00 from my friend to cover funeral and have outstanding debts I am left with. His mom has yet to offer to help with what was saved and not overpaid because I wouldn't give her his remains. Can she keep his benefits if he was entitled to them or can I ask ssa to give me poa so I can take care of his affairs?
I would contact the SSA to find out the specifics on this situation. Good luck & I am sorry for your loss.
if you have been appointed to have a payee by a judge originaly .yet after 18 years of disability you feel that you are able to use certain tools to help with managing money .my injurys have worsened over the years .some have remained unchanged issues resulting from injury to my Hypothalumus .memmory.hormonal control body temperature which is all out of wack.seazure like attacks .my ability to use notes my cell phone have helped organise my abilitys to handle money . physical problems hinder me and delay plans but I manage . My payee has helped tremendously to try to help me to become financial dependent .still under my payees control .I would like to be my own payee. my big issue is storys I have heard of disabled people who have tried this getting their benifits stopped . this is my only source of income below the poverty line in the USA .so I am scared I lìve in Costa Rica cost of living is way less than the united states and it is still hard to survive on the amount I get medicare will not cover me here I can't afford a Private doctor and am part of the socialised medical system here. should I be scared or are these storys that do not have merit ????
Sometimes when becoming your own payee the SSA will reopen your case to re-evaluation whether your disability still qualifies for disability benefits. If the SSA finds your condition has significantly improved, they may disqualify you for benefits.
I have a organization two payee and I think they maybe misusing my money for there own personal use what should I do to get a different payee and how many different people can ones relative be a payee for
I would contact the SSA about that! They can appoint you a new payee.
Would I receive my last payment of my direct express card before my payee get it
Your payee always gets it first!
I have a question for my friend. His wife was his payee ,she no longer is his payee but why would his check get cut a 1000 dollars less and when he called social security they would not tell him why. They are in process of getting divorced .
I am sorry to hear that, I really couldn't say why. I would recommend them speaking with a Social Security advocate to see what next steps to take.
My 21 year old nephew recently came to live with me. He is autistic. His father is his payee. He’s been with me about 3 weeks now. There was neglect (not giving medications, unkept, and wearing dirty clothes) his program director can testify to this. There are police reports and adult protection services is involved. APS said they don’t give reports. How can I change the payee. He’s not even living with his father. I do receive SSDI
