Lump sum back payment

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I received two lump sum payments, but I have not spent all of the funds. I want to make a funeral arrangement and buy a car. How soon must I spend the lump sum payment.

In April 2016 I was granted full favoritable date all way to Jan 2013. I hired law office Citizens Disablity the agree was I pay 25% or $6000 . Just found out May 2016 I was given a full lump sum for my ssdi backpay and my law office had sent a direct deposit form for their payment and all my backpay ended up going in there account. I caught it few days after receiving my detailed papers in mail in when and what I was getting back. My question is now that I went up in person to social security office wonder what the process is now to recover my money and get repayed"/ was awful that my own attoneys office did that direct deposit form in my me without me knowing.

Hi Brandy,
This may be a mistake on their part, I would contact them and the SSA about this, as they can help clear this up better.

Hi Alberta,
Your payment may be being processed by the SSA, or your bank at the moment.

Hi there,
If you're getting paid in installments, the installments generally come six months apart.

I have a question. I am 35 years old i just found out my father was not my father. My father passed away when i was one years old. My mother recieved social security for my sisters. Am i entitled as well considering i am way over 18?

Hi Pamela,
That must be a lot to process! If your mother was receiving survivor's benefits based off of your biological father's work record, you may not be eligible for benefits as survivor's benefits are paid from the time you apply rather than when the worker died.

Hi Kay,
They may be able to expedite your claim, I would contact your local SSA office with some information about your foreclosure.

Good afternoon,
I would like to know if I can apply for a 'hardship' (lump sum or loan type), under my survivors benefits case? ( Which I have just started receiving). I have been told that this was possibility if you can prove your hardship.

Hi Jeanette,
I know it may be a possibility for SSI, however I would not be able to say if it might be for survivor's benefits. I would contact the SSA for some more information about that.

Hi Delores,
Yes, you may be able to get your benefits in advance for emergency circumstances. I would get any documents about your situation and contact your local SSA office.
