My great aunt was my great uncles payee for 15 years and She passed away on June 5 2016. After her death my uncle received notification his benefits were suspended until a another rep payee was appointed.Concerned of his well being I went to SSA local office with him and applied to be his rep. After two long months of no benefits today I receive a check in the mail. I no longer want to be his payee and we no longer even have contact with each other. What do I do with the benefits I received?
Hi Matt, I would contact the SSA and let them know that you wish to no longer be your great uncle's payee, they can advise you as to what you need to do with the check.
My daughter just turn 19 social security deny her but I'm still recieving benefits on a appeal... Can I still terminated the appeal case if they approved another payee
I'm not sure, but your daughter may not be eligible for benefits based off of your work record or income and resources.

My daughter is her husband's payee for his SSI. Due to abuse she wants to stop being his payee and leave him. How would she do that?

DSS is my sons guardian at the moment. He has been back in my home since July 29th how can I change his payee to me? His worker told me to just go file an application yet, I have been reading a lot of different things like having a letter from court stating he is in my custody?
Generally the SSA will assign a representative payee for someone who needs one, regardless of custody. It may be a good idea to contact the SSA to find out their exact criteria, and it also may be a good idea to find someone that you trust who would be able and willing to be a payee as well, in case there is any trouble assigning yourself as the payee.
I AM A PAYEE FOR FRIEND BUT HE HAS BECOME NOT ONLY VERBALLY ABUSIVE BUT HE IS ALSO VERY DESTRUCTIVE. I DO NOT WANT TO BE HIS PAYEE ANY LONGER. ISN'T THERE A WAY ONLINE TO FILL THE FORMS OUT RATHER THAN GO INTO AN OFFICE. I DO NOT WANT TO JEOPARDIZE MY JOB
You may want to contact the SSA by phone, they can best advise you how to have another payee assigned for your friend.
My question is I am the payee for my daughter but her father is trying to take that away from me cuz he wants her money I use the money for her school clothes shoes food and a roof over her head how do I stop him
it may be a good idea to contact the SSA with the information about what is going on, they may not reassign a payee who is using the beneficiary's monthly benefits correctly.

The place he lives is not good and I have made ever attempt to get him close to me where i can keep an eye on him and secure better housing due drug use and his being taken advantage of. I have taken with the agency who provided him housing with no help. What can I do?
You may want to contact the housing authority in your state, they may have programs available for your brother depending on his condition.
my doctor said he would fill out the SSA form in my favor and my goal is to my own payee the instant the SSA form is processed, would it be in a day, instantly, a few days.
Generally the process to receive disability benefits may take up to a few months.
My grandson wants to be his own payee now that he is 20yrs old, what do I have to do to change this?
You should contact the SSA regarding this, they can either assign him a new payee if he cannot be his own, or change their records so that he can be his own payee.
I have requested a new payee and was told the next monthly check would be paper going to the new payee will that start now in October since this request was made in September??
It may be best to check with your new payee, they may have received notification from the SSA that they would start getting your benefits.
My have been my sons payee about 2 years since his approval. I learned a month ago that he went to the SS office and they turned control of his money to him. My son is not capable of handling his own money he does not pay for any of his basic needs. He will not but things to bath with, food, clothes, or anything that provide basic needs. O don't understand how they can let him control his funds without requiring him to be examined by a doctor just an office visit to SS. He has one of the worse cases of paranoid schizophrenia. He has had about 15 mental health stays in the last two years. He has solicited people in the neighborhood for guns so he can shoot is family. There is documentation of this at the police department. He has a 10 day mental stay after this incident. My fear no is that he will carry out this threat of buying a gun because he has control of his check now. How do he get a new payee? He is not capable of handling his money. All be buys us cigarettes, alcohol and fast food with his money. He is broke in three days and he has not provided any basic needs for himself.
you may want to contact the SSA and let them know about this, they can help you with assigning a new payee.

My husband is on disability with rare form of dementia, as in young onset, his speech has become very hard to understand, he understands most everything, but cant follow directions very well. The ssa has asked that maybe I should become his rep payee. We have be married for 28 yrs and have a joint checking acct.I have done all the book keeping in our family. We have a good marriage and will I be keeping him at home till he dies, per his request. Since this is a type of requested payee, not required, are the stipulations still the same? Ie: different bank accts, keeping account of everything that is spent on him etc....how does that work when what he gets is what we live on?
I'm sorry to hear that.
Generally it's good practice to follow the guidelines for representative payees, even if the payee is a voluntary one.

Can you have a payee and still be in charge of your money? And if your payee removes themself and if u don't have one to replace the payee will ssa stop your check till u have a new payee?
the SSA would appoint a new payee at that point, and they may hold any funds until you have a new payee appointed.

I am my daughters payee. She is 18yrs old with bipolar. She wants all her money sent to her now ,so she is going down to SSI to remove me. What can I do about this, can she remove me without me being there.
She may not be eligible for benefits past the age of 18 if she is on child SSI, but if she is on adult SSI and is required to have a payee she may not be able to change her payee without some compelling reason for the SSA to appoint another payee.
I was my stepdaughter payee and she went with her mom to changes her payee a week ago with out knowing about it til the other day cause she told that her mom would get her check dec 1 st someone told me i would. I don't know how true this is. I was wondering if this is true or not
